China Previews Gallery is proud to present the works of Zhao Yi in her show entitled, The Third Heaven. Both an artists and idealist at heart, Zhao Yi’s philosophy on life is one of balance and harmony driven by a vision of human evolution leading to perfect peace and understanding. Her work undoubtedly sings on a tactile level, but evokes all five senses into a world that is truly heavenly. The use of silks, foils and paper symbolize a joining of nature and man, what is found and what is made, harmoniously co- existing in swirls and patterns that creep across her canvas of work.

With dual degrees in Fine Arts from Huazhong Normal University and the Beijing Institute of Clothing Technology, Zhao Yi uses fibers, primarily ramie silk, to spin a story in her art. The fibers appear at times eerie, but nonetheless beautiful as they make their way across her work. Her goal is take her audience into a world that is,” so emotive, so transparent, so clear, and so glorious”. Her unique use of materials intertwined with her ability to spin patterns creates a unique niche in contemporary art that reflects her unique nature.

Her works have been featured in the collections of Goldman Sachs, World Bank in New York, and the Beijing Modern Art Gallery. Zhao Yi is a widely exhibited artist, having been features several times on various programs for CCTV. Please join us on Thursday, June 5th, 6-8pm for the opening reception of The Third Heaven.
